Steering Wheel Cover Tutorial

So, here goes my first tutorial! A steering wheel cover is extremely easy and I love mine, I used it so long that it finally fell apart & I decided it was time for a new one, so I decided to turn it into a tutorial! Here goes:

First step: Pick super cute fabric!! I chose fleece, but the one I made before was out of cotton, so it doesn't really matter. For this project you'll need around/ a little less than a 1/4 of a yard of fabric & about 50 inches of elastic.

Second Step: you need to measure the circumference of your steering wheel and also the width of it. Mine was about 48" by 4", so I made my fabric 49" X 6".

Third Step: You need to make a casing for your elastic. If you don't know how to do this it's very simple. I measured about an inch on each side, folded it over, and pinned it all the way from one end to the other. Then sew close enough to the interior edge for your elastic to fit into the casing. Like this:

Fourth Step: The next step will be cutting your elastic. Your elastic needs to be half the length of your material, so that it creates a "scrunch" My elastic was about 25"

Fifth Step: The next step is inserting your elastic, this can be tricky! As you can see in the picture to the left I attach a safety pin to the end of my elastic to help pull it through the hole. So, now you need to get the elastic through the casing without losing it!

Step Six: Once you get the first piece of elastic through safety pin them together & work on the other piece of elastic. You're really close to being finished now!

Step Seven: Now here comes the hard part! You're going to line up the ends right sides together & pin it. The hard part is not letting the elastic escape down into the casing! Now sew up the end & cut off the extra elastic that's poking out. You're finished! Enjoy!

Finished product!
